There are currently over 70 communities in LWPS. Most of them have been created by Dr. Sally Gelardin, Dr. Ed Colozzi, and myself.1 This post, the narrative and list below will highlight those that relate to the core purpose of LWPS. (Most of the other communities are important because they all deal with lifework/career planning issues.)

Most of the time, when you are logged into LWPS, you will be creating, reviewing, reflecting upon and revising your lifework/career planning posts in your personal blog. In the beginning, we will encourage you to view posts in the "New member!"2 community to learn about the features and functions of LWPS, and to consider recommendations for posts we think you should create.

As your blog develops, we hope you will see how important it is for you to periodically review and revise key posts in your personal blog so they reflect who you are at that moment so you are prepared for those inevitable unplanned events3 and transitions4 in your life.

Soon after you join LWPS, we will recommend that you explore the Seven (7) life stages of CD5 community to read about NCDA's policy about age-appropriate career development (CD). Next we will recommend that you explore the LifeWork Planning process6 community to learn about an eight (8) step decision-making model. As your blog matures, we will then ask you to review the Dreams; Visions; Bliss; Your Voice7, and Destiny, and Spirituality communities.

Below is a little more descriptive information about each of the superscripted links above. (Each core community is under development and the per-centages (pp%) indicate their approximate level of completion. My posts that are less than 40% complete are private while I develop them.)

After you click each community link below you will notice changes in the right sidebar. The "Brief Description" box under "Profile Owner" and the list of "Members" will be different and unique to that community.

If you want to see Sally's, Ed's and my communities, just click on each name, then look in the right sidebar under "Owned communities".

New member!: (40%) Learn about the features and functions of LWPS, and consider recommendations for posts we think you should create.

LifeWork Planning Services (LWPS) is a blogging platform that is divided into two types of blogs: personal and community.

A blog is a collection or concentration of posts. (More about posts.)

As an LWPS member, you have your own personal blog. No one but you can add a post to your personal blog, except an LWPS administrator.

You and others can create community blogs which will have a specific purpose or focus. (See this post for guidelines.)

Most community blogs are public and any LWPS member can post to them. You can create restricted community blogs and limit who can read it or add posts to it.

Your LifeWork is what you were meant to do, what gives you joy, and what satisfies your soul.

Please read the following before you decide to register.

LifeWork Planing Services (LWPS) is ...

a one-of-a-kind free (for basic services) e-learning social networking community blogging platform

where you will record, review, reflect upon and revise private, semi-private and/or public posts that contain key information about yourself (like "My values", “My interests”, “My accomplishments”, “My Functional Transferable Skills”, “My …”, etc.) that you will use in career/lifework planning activities to make considered and informed career decisions that will make your dreams your LifeWork. We will encourage you to link all of these posts you create into your most important post that we call your "My LifeWork Portal" (LWP). Here is mine. You will start off creating a much smaller and simpler LWP.

Everyone should find LWPS to be useful and valuable, but it is only attractive (and therefore useful) to you if ...

you understand the subtle distinction between a job, an occupation, a career and what I call LifeWork, AND

job satisfaction, quality of life, work/life balance, knowing your calling, and making your dreams your lifework are important to you, AND

you know that one of the prerequistes to achieving that is 1) developing a deep understanding of yourself (values, interests, skills, etc.) and 2) making informed and considered career decisions, AND

you know that writing that information down and collecting it somewhere is the only effective path to that understanding and decision making, AND

you know that easy access to that information is critical so you can periodically review it, reflect upon it and revise it as needed, AND

you will consider or you are eager to share your lifework planning knowledge and experiences with others to assist them in their lifework planning activities, AND

(if you started one) you will consider converting or augmenting your paper portfolio into an electronic portfolio, AND

you have a strong interest in the Internet and enjoy using it (or are eager to learn), AND

you have or are considering creating accounts on social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, etc., and you now see the need for your own personal blog for lifework/career planning activities, AND

you use your computer to access the Internet more than an hour a day (or you intend to soon), AND

you understand (or are eager to learn) a few basic html commands (hyperlinks, lists, etc.) to develop your blog including a one page summary of who you are at this instant, AND

you want all of this in one (free - for basic services) platform for the rest of your life, AND

you are willing to be patient with LWPS since it is a work-in-progress and constantly evolving, AND

if you are under 18 years of age

your parents approve and hopefully participate, and

your parents are willing to let you use their e-mail address to receive e-mail notifications of comments to posts and announcements from LWPS, or they approve of you using your own e-mail address, and

you have invited your school counselor to participate.

then LWPS may be right for you and you should check out the LWPS Roadmap where there is a link to the registration webpage.

If LWPS is not for you, we hope you will mark your calendar to visit us again in the future and we wish your the best.

If you are a registered LWPS member and have decided that LWPS is not for you, just add a comment to this post that says "Please delete my account". <!--
Pete: Review 43things guidelines and mores to expand this post. http://www.43things.com/city_hall/doc/guidelines

The mission of Life's Work is to encourage and help the motivated individual to discover his/her purposeful life, as manifested through vocation and/or avocation.

One's life purpose, sometimes referred to as Calling or Destiny, is one's unique contribution to the world that uses the whole self fully and gives life passion, fulfillment and meaning. Those who elect to explore their life's calling are invited to take their unique journey.

The journey itself is of supreme value and must be initiated by the individual, within an understanding, yet focused, coaching relationship.

Central to the process of Life's Work is the development of consciousness and the emergence of an ethic based upon a respect for the mysteries and the vitality of the human soul (psyche).

This is a wonderful time to reassess your personal and professional goals. It is important to keep in mind that you have specific talents that the world needs. A true vocation is one where you feel called into action. As uncertain and unsteady as you may feel, taking up this challenge may be a turning point in your life.

Life/Work Planning is a holistic approach to the career decision-making and job search process. The marble in the top left corner, is a symbol for this process. The green spiral shows that the process is not linear, not a "straight shot" but rather more of a circular path of discovering new levels of possibilities.
Researcher/Manager sounds like a pretty good fit for you! Mine came up Identity Creator—no surprise there, either, and that was from the colors-only version. (“When you listen to others' hopes, fears and concerns, they discover on their own what’s best for them, as well. You give to others the gift of knowing who they are.”)

I’ve always been fond of color tests from Luscher in the 1960’s to the warmed over Jung/Myers-Briggs of today’s True Colors materials (http://www.truecolors.org/color_meaning.html). Is the Dewey Color system scientifically and cross-culturally valid? I rather doubt it, but it seems like a fun and non-threatening starting place to talk about hopes and dreams before dragging out the heavy duty LMI data. During training I’ve found that http://www.personalityquiz.net/shapes/ullazang.htm can be a great ice breaker because there’s an enthusiastic discussion of favorite designs and that leads into how everyone also has a preferred pattern of career interests.

There’s something to be learned from their online store, too (http://www.deweycolorsystem.com/colorstore/colorstore_alt.html )--we just push careers while they can help with careers, relationships, self-knowledge AND interior décor, wardrobe updates, picture framing, puzzles, greeting cards, and 15 stuffed animals to collect! Do we even offer 16 different T-shirts for the career clusters? Nope.

    Lola

Lola Lucas
IL Department of Employment Security
Illinois Career Resource Network
850 E. What you can't tell from these results is that the assessment also asked me about a few other matters, including my present occupational field and title and some occupational-choice pairs. (It also asked my height and weight!) But at the Web site you can also take an assessment based entirely on color preference.

Laurence Shatkin
10 River Knoll Drive
Titusville, NJ 08560-1304
phone: 609-737-8395
fax: 909-498-7898
e-mail: Laurence@myself.com
http://www.shatkin.com

________________________________________
From: sales@deweycolorsystem.com [mailto:sales@deweycolorsystem.com]
Sent: Monday, August 25, 2008 9:39 AM
To: Laurence@myself.com
Subject: Dewey Color System Career Predictor
Laurence Shatkin, based on our experience with many different professionals, your color preferences indicate that the occupations below best suit your personality and interests. Note also that a listed profession, never before considered, may seem off. For example, if you love to type, data entry operator might be listed as well, even though you want to be a fiction writer.
BEST OCCUPATIONAL CATEGORY
You're a RESEARCHER

Key Words: Independent, Self-Motivated, Reserved, Introspective, Analytical, and Curious

These investigative types gather information, analyze and interpret data, and inquire to uncover new facts. They have a strong scientific orientation, enjoy academic or research environments and prefer self-reliant jobs. Dislikes are group projects, selling, and repetitive activities.
RESEARCHER OCCUPATIONS
Suggested careers are College Professor, Physician, Psychologist, Pharmacist, Chemist, Marketing Research, Inventor, Sales Forecasting, Project Engineer, Dentist, Identifying Consumer Demand, Chiropractor, Dentist, Medical Technician, Optometrist, Research & Development Manager, Respiratory Therapist, Chiropractor, Veterinarian, Geologist, Physicist, Science Teacher, Medical Technologist, and Author of Technical Books.
RESEARCHER WORKPLACES
Tasks oriented careers where you can become absorbed in the job, be original and creative, and not conform to rigid company rules will work best for you. Unstructured organizations, for example, that allow you to sail your own ship are vital.
Suggested Researcher work places are universities and colleges, home office positions, medical facilities, computer-related industries, scientific foundations and think tanks, research firms, and design laboratories.

2ND BEST OCCUPATIONAL CATEGORY
You're a MANAGER
Key Words: Tactful, Cooperative, Generous, Understanding, Insightful, Friendly, and Cheerful
This very social type enjoys working in groups, sharing responsibilities, and being the center of attention. Fields of interest are instructing, helping, nurturing, care giving and instructing-especially young people. They discuss and consider feelings in order to solve problems, lead, direct, persuade, guide, organize and enlighten others.

CAREER FOCUS POWER
SELECT YOUR 5 MOST FUN CAREERS
Open your mind to see the possibilities, yet be conclusive. Flip-flopping is exhausting and makes you unsuccessful. Either skip over careers requiring a background or education that you do not currently possess, or consider making one of them a long-term career path.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
CAREER CONSULTING FOR THE CLUELESS
The Dewey Color System is now the world's first and only validated, color-based personality testing instrument. Sixteen personality factors including the five global factors of independence, anxiety, self-control, extraversion, and tough-mindedness can now be statistically predicted by color preference.
The patented system's ability to measure the connection between personality and distinctive color choices is revolutionary. Read further about our landmark statistical correlations, validation against the Strong Interest Inventory® (occupational and career interest) and the 16PF® (business and clinical) and scientific journal publications compiled by Dr. Rense Lange at deweycolorsystem.com.
The System statistically predicts, without language biases, occupations that create personal fulfillment and success. For example, are you struggling to know whether mathematics, medical science, art, writing, public speaking, law, sales, or organizational management might be the profession for you? If so, the Dewey Career Predictor will provide you with valuable information about which career is best for you!
There are other Dewey Color System® products available.
Click here to visit our color store.

If you have any questions or need assistance with your order, please email us at: info@deweycolorsystem.com
__._,_.___
of a high fiber diet.
.
